The Life of a Bridge - conception to retirement

We will explore the life of a bridge
in this session and what is being
done to ensure a long and healthy
life for our bridges. We will start by
discussing load resistance factor rating
(LRFR) and how this will ensure that
our bridges stress levels are kept to
a minimum. We will then discuss
how the location of a bridge, such
as our coastal bridges, could make
them vulnerable to wave impacts
during storm events. Then we will
discuss the value of having regular
check-ups (inspections) to ensure that
our bridges are receiving the proper
maintenance during their life. Finally,
we will discuss how long we can expect
our bridges to perform before it is time
for them to retire.
